Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2

Below are several links for Exchange 2003 SP2 information.  To increase the 16 Gig limit for the Exchange Standard Edition Information Store, you need to perform a registry hack.  There were also changes for mobile users, IMF and other Exchange 2003 features.

You'll definitely want to check out the current release notes:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52072

If you dig into the release notes and search for "enabling or disabling MAPI access per user" you'll find the details on how to force cached mode access to Exchange 2003.

Here's some detail on how to increase the store size to >16GB:

In addition - here's some detail on Windows Mobile 5:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/5/default.mspx

To take advantage of the new security features and the AUTD push to the device, you'll need WM5 devices that are running the MFP (Mobility Feature Pack).  The MFP is loaded by the OEM on the phone.

The web based 'remote wipe' admin console and the utlity to deploy certificates to WM5 devices (to support certificate based authentication) will be available in a web rollup later this year.  I'll post more details once that is available.

Preparing your 5.5 Server(s) before migration

From Brett.....

A few questions from the first day of the tour were raised around the prep'ing of the 5.5 Server to mitigate any risk when you actually start to move mailboxes \ PF's etc etc.... Here are a few points you should consider.

1) To prevent 9582 error messages in the target Application Event log on your Ex2003 SP2 Server  (These are ACEs that are not valid may be entries that originated from Microsoft Windows NT security for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 disabled accounts if the Exchange Server 5.5 mailboxes (or public folders) were incorrectly migrated to Exchange 2003) - You may want to consider removing any unknown ACE's (Access Control Entries) from you Store - You can do this from Exchange 5.5 Admin PRIOR to migrating to Ex2003 by running:

From Ex5.5 Admin - Server Properties - Advanced - Consistency Adjuster - Make sure you the following TWO objects checked:

      a) Remove Unknown user accounts from mailbox permissions

      b) Remove Unknown user accounts from the public folder permissions.

The other two check boxes should be left blank.

2) Secondly, if you have time on your side you may want to just validate the consitency of your Databases (from both a physical and logical database perspective) - It could in the long run save you time as by running these commands will make sure that move mailbox failures are kept to a mimimum.

The following commands are for the Priv.EDB for the Pub.EDB just substitute  /ISPRIV with  /ISPUB:

      a) ESEUtil /g -- This will go ahead and check in read only mode that the Database itself is healthy and there is no corruption.

      Correct Path from a CMD prompt = %\Exchsrvr\bin\ESEUTIL /G /ISPRIV /V /X >GPRIV.LOG

      b) ESEUtil /d -- This will go ahead and compact the Database (remove any whitespace from within the DB making it smaller) PLEASE TAKE A BACKUP AFTER THIS COMPLETES.

      Correct Path from a CMD prompt = %\Exchsrvr\bin\ESEUTIL /D /ISPRIV >DPRIV.LOG

      c) ISINTEG -- This will go ahead and clear up any abnormalities with the logical data (i.e. the mail data that lives on the Database pages)

Correct Path from a CMD prompt = %\Exchsrvr\bin\ISINTEG -PRI -FIX -DETAILED -VERBOSE -L IPRIV.LOG -TEST ALLTESTS

Further information about all of this can be found here:

Crazy, Crazy Busy

I'm finally getting caught up with a backlog of stuff at home and work. I took a few days off this week, went to the dentist and eye doctors and slept in for the first time in weeks. Ahhhh.

This week was a mid-term election in New Jersey. I would like to say we voted in a new governer, but its more like we voted against Forrester. What a turd. His proposals for property tax relief were a joke. For the governer to make any impact on our property tax, the state needs to change the way schools are funded. Even if the non-local portion of our property taxes were eliminated, our taxes would not be reduced by 30%...

I started running with Katie at night and doing some light weight training. I'll post a note when I'm under 200 lbs.

Bush Breaks A Record

I did a little checking and the number looks about right.
So the legacy my unborn grandchildren will have is a multi-trillion dollar debt.

I didn't like Bush before, but its just getting silly now.

I wonder if this is true? From the Blue Dog Coalition: Bush Administration Breaks Record.

President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined.

Throughout the first 224 years (1776-2000) of our nation's history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions according to the U.S. Treasury Department. In the past four years alone (2001-2005), the Bush Administration has borrowed a staggering $1.05 trillion.

Well, at least he'll be remembered for something.

Back in the saddle again

After months of issues with Blogger and my original server, I replaced the server with a fresh Windows 2003 install, a slightly faster processor, disks and more RAM.

I'm still having timeout issues with Blogger and publishing the entire blog (and five years of archives) to my site. Not sure why, but it appears to be a timeout with Blogger, not my server.
