Flynn died today.
Sometimes its hard to believe that things get more complicated.
I dropped Flynn off at Lynn Farm (the breeders) in Burlington this morning and left around 9:25. By the time I stopped at Starbucks in Moorestown (9:55) he was dead. For some bizzare reason, Flynn tore out into the street and was hit by a car right after I left. They didn't have time to shut the front gates to the property and they live off a 40 MPH road. He has never, ever done something like that. In fact, I let him loose and he went right into the house when we arrived.
We are close friends with Simermeyer's, and they are the only people we really trust with Flynn. Lauren is going to vet school in July and she gave him CPR and epinepherine shots on the way to the vet hospital, but there was nothing they could do. Even the guy who hit him stopped and came back to the house.

I tried to configure a LinkSys WPC11 PC Card on a Thinkpad running Windows 98.
I hate Windows 98. It is evil.
However, what do you do when you have a box with 64 Meg of RAM? I never got the Linksys to work without blue screens and the latest (only) driver download from Linksys states the release is for Win2K and XP. What's a geek to do?
I installed my Orinoco card in about fifteen minutes (Win98 TCP/IP drivers and other nonsense). The only thing left is to fix the IE 5.5 lockdown (it was a corporate PC in another life). I might need to hack at the registry or run policy editor. The last time I taught a Win98 course was probably 1997 or 1998. Ugh.

I called Barb, she said Flynn is 'depressed'. They are not sure if he's sick, lazy or misses the other male in the house (that would be me!).
The weather is supposed to be crappy tomorrow, but Megan and I will have to put on our boots and take him out to terrorize the canadian geese in the local park.
Stay tuned.

Rain in Dallas. What a shock. Some thunder and lightning, too.
we have been inside all day, so it matters little to us. Some very good sessions yesterday and today. I was most intrigued with ADAM (Active Directory Application Mode), which is a way to support application specific directories tied to AD. This is a significant issue for some of my clients.
The session on Kerberos authentication pointed out some of the tricks that gave me grief testing it with AD several months ago.
I met Jim Dial last night too, he is part of the MSA initiative - Microsoft Systems Architecture. Basically the infrastructure group. I missed his session today, but I had a conflict and I'm starting to get crispy around the edges, so I don't want to jump sessions.
Last night the IT Party gift was a very slick 32 Meg USB drive. I was looking at buying one just to have for quick and dirty file transfers. Glad I was cheap and held off.
Today I bought a Cisco Air 352 PC Card. Its a new model with 100 mA of power versus 30-40 mA that other cards, including the previous model 340 put out. Its not clear what the throughput is on the network here due to contention and 1MM geeks hitting it each break, but I will benchmark against my Orinoco Gold and 340 loaner card when I get home.

TechEd - Day 5
The network is much, much better today. I had an full (excellent) connection in the wireless lounge. First time this week.
Breakfast had some wierd form of sausage that was pretty good, but looked more like chile. Must be in Texas, chile for breakfast.
Problems posting the blogs to my home web site - looks like an FTP issue.

I'm at TechEd in Dallas this week.
I woke up at 3:00AM (its OK, Sarah) and it was ~52F.
I got to Dallas late morning and it was 92F. Ugh! My thick Irish blood was very sluggish.
I'm excited to be at TechEd again. They have 'wireless everywhere'. Sort of. It was very cool Sunday, but Monday the network was sucking wind while 7500 geeks and geekettes, all with multiple wireless devices, were hammering the network. I got an iPaq loaner for the conference, but had to reset it several times yesterday. The highlight of the day was sending mail to friends and family from the comfort of Stall #3 in the mens room.
There are also a bunch of bloggers at TechEd. I still have to hook up with them, but there are still several days left in the conference. The biggest problem is I'm getting up at 6AM, getting home around midnight and I'm just beat.
I'm looking for Datagrid Girl to see if I can get a pink button for my daughters.
more later.
