Good article. Bottom line - you should at least estimate the IO requirements of your Exchange implementation and your SAN configuration to be certain the SAN will not be a performance bottleneck.
I'm seeing some low end SAN's packed with very large drives to get maximum capacity rather than maximum performance. The large drives decrease the number of spindles/platters which, in turn, will reduce the I/O operations per second when you slice and dice it for your Exchange LUNs.
Doesn't it always come down to engineering? Don't feer the math!
