Letter to NYT Circulation Department
Greetings,
I'm writing to let you know that delivery of the NYT to South Jersey sucks.
This morning I drove to three stores to buy the NYT Sunday Edition. The 'Super Wawa' doesn't appear to carry the NYT any more. I was told by the shift manager that the driver 'stopped delivering the papers'. This is crap because it's delivered to the 7-Eleven across the street, but the 7-Eleven copies were missing the NYT Sunday Magazine, so I drove to the Shop-Rite. Guess what? None of the NYT Sunday Edition newspapers had the NYT Magazine either. If I had more time, or didn't want to waste gas, I would have driven to the Wawa in Marlton, NJ. From past experience, it appears this store is on a different delivery route, but I'm not sure at this point if that is the case, or if I was lucky last time.
So, today I paid $5 for the Sunday NYT with the NYT Sunday Magazine, but I'm not happy. I'm sending this to let you know. If no one tells you, you can't take any action.
Also, you should know that this happens with alarming frequency. I can't think of one month where I haven't had to run to multiple stores, or bought a paper with one (more more!) sections missing. I have had better luck buying the NYT Sunday Edition when I travel than in South Jersey. The problem isn't limited to the NYT, I feel compelled to check the Philadelphia Inquirer to verify the paper is complete as well.
I'm thinking about getting delivery to my door, but I am CERTAIN the paper will not be delivered as early as I want (before 8AM at the latest), be missing sections of the paper, or will be wet (in a puddle at the bottom of my drive, which is filled with cars).
Good luck, and let me know if you know what the problem is and how it can be resolved.
I am a former newspaper delivery boy. I would bend over backwards to deliver the newspapers intact and dry. I know you can't go back to the 'bad old days', but it would be nice to know I can get a complete newspaper either delivered or at a local store without it becoming a scavenger hunt on Sunday mornings.
Regards,
